Just a quick note to jot down some things:
I've still been reading a lot. One more educational book. How to Talk So Your Kids Will Learn. Thumbs up on that one. Extremely practical for parents and teachers. Two books by Charles Seife. Decoding the Universe and Zero. DtU was fantastic. It basically looks at quantum mechanics and relativity as subsets of information theory. The universe as an information system at its most fundamental level. Definitely recommended if you're at all into those types of things. Zero was a biography of 0. Good stuff. I also read Band of Brothers which was an impressive look at soldiers at war.
Here is a fascinating article about self-control and how it can predict your success in school and life: Don’t! The secret of self-control.
Couple that with: High IQ: Not as good for you as you thought.
And: How Not to Talk to Your Kids: The inverse power of praise.
That's enough to give you a whole new philosophy of teaching and parenting.
Okay, enough of the quick thoughts. I may expand on some of this in the future but I had to jot it down now since so many neat ideas are rolling through my brain and they're beginning to push each other out.
