Read All About It
I've been reading like crazy as of late. Besides the four educational books I mentioned in my previous post, I also tossed in Freakonomics and 1776.
Freakonomics was good, albeit random. It kind of left me wanting more, but only if there were a huge selection of topics to choose from and they were well indexed. In other words, some parts of the book were far more interesting than others.
1776 was an account of General George Washington and the battles of the Colonial Army in 1776. Very fascinating historical account. McCullough, the author, did a really good job of presenting tons of primary sources without making the text tedious. Actually, it was far from tedious. It was exciting. I never knew how close our army was to being defeated on multiple occasions, and the overwhelming odds they faced. God certainly shed His grace upon us at that time.
And God bless the soldiers who fight for our country. What a horrible thing war is.
Most of these books I've been checking out from the La Mesa library. Today the whole family went there and I picked up a couple more books. Band of Brothers, which I may or may not end up reading, and Decoding the Universe, which I have never heard of, but looks right up my alley.
My main goal is to finish Discipline Without Stress before I go back to work. It's a quality read so far, but not exactly a page turner. So I'm not sure if I'll get through any more books by May 1. It's been fun, though.
