Remember the Milk
My last post was about trying to be productive during vacation. I've been doing a good job so far mainly because of my all-time favorite productivity tool. No, not coffee. I don't touch the stuff. It's Remember the Milk!
Remember the Milk is an online to-do list which I can no longer live without. I first started using it at work to track all the little jobs I had to do. Almost any time a teacher or administrator would see me they'd say something like, "Hey Nate, there's this thing about my computer that maybe you could take a look at?" This would be repeated multiple times each day, and without a system to track and prioritize all these jobs I would have a lot of apologizing to do. "Oh that's right...you asked me to change the bulb in your projector 3 weeks ago."
As a result of RTM I have a fairly high reliability-rating (I made that up) at work. If someone has something I need to do then I write it down in RTM as quickly as I can, and then it's guaranteed to get done in a reasonable amount of time.
Remember the Milk was so useful at work that I began expanding it to home projects as well. Below is a picture of my current Home to-do list (click on it to see higher resolution). You can also see the tabs I have setup for work to-do lists. The best part about RTM is that my mind is freed from trying to remember things. I write them down and then forget about them. Therefore, I can concentrate on more important stuff like what I'm going to eat for lunch. Speaking of....
