How Calendars Fill
It's Friday night and I'm officially on vacation. Due to the beauty of the "modified year-round schedule" I have the rest of April to not think of work.
That may seem like a ridiculous amount of free time. But having done this for many years now, I can say with certainty that the time will fill up and fly by.
Here's a rundown of some of the things on my to-do list:
- Mow the weeds in the front yard. Probably twice.
- Get car air conditioning fixed before someone melts.
- File amended tax form because someone sent us an important tax document very late--after we had already received our tax return.
- Work daily, consistently on our business, especially preparing for the big Lia Sophia conference in June.
- Find an intelligent way to refinance our home before inflation skyrockets.
- Create a revocable living trust and anything else that goes with it so Obama doesn't give our family's money to AIG in case of our early demise.
- Have a great time spending each day with my wife and kids.
- Have a great time with the kids when my wife is in Hawaii with her mom while I'm home with the kids having a great time...but at home, not in Hawaii.
- Get a haircut.
I think it's clear to most people that some things on that list are likely going to get neglected. A vacation isn't really a vacation if things on your to-do list aren't being vacated.
Perhaps I'll return to work in May with long hair.
