A Wonderful Man, My Grandpa
My dear (and only) Grandpa passed away last night at midnight. We all knew the time was coming because his condition was getting worse by the hour. He was diagnosed not too long ago with cancer and the cancer had spread throughout his body. When I was home in June I saw him several times and he was still very much with us and still had his wonderful sense of humor as he was cracking little jokes here and there with the girls. I did not realize that would be the last time I saw my Grandpa alive. Yet I am so thankful that I did have that time with him and the girls were able to see him while he was still well.
Grandpa was moved into a nursing home/hospice care just a couple days ago. Just within those couple days his condition deteriorated dramatically. He went from being able to communicate a little to no communication at all. I was able to talk to him on the phone a couple times and he was able to talk back to me even though I could not understand him. Capri also sang "You are my sunshine" over the phone to him. I hope it brought him as much joy as it brought me.
My grandpa will be missed dearly by his children, grandchildren, and everyone that knew him. I will always cherish his last words of wisdom that he gave to my mom just a couple days ago, "Never walk away from the Lord". Grandpa was a Christian as long as I've known him and we have peace knowing he is now with our Heavenly Father. Now that Grandpa is with the Lord my prayers move to our family and my mom as we all grieve his loss.
I leave tomorrow morning to fly back to Wisconsin to be with my family and be at the funeral. Nate and the girls will stay here and hold down the fort. I will miss them dearly.
Here are a couple photos of my Grandpa in his healthier years. This is how I will always remember him. The baby in the photo is Capri. I love you Grandpa. Thank you for being a wonderful, Godly example to me all of my life. I miss you. Goodbye for now.
