Pine R.I.P.
I thought, just for memory's sake, it might be nice to post the vital stats of our late aleppo pine.
This is a large conifer, whose canopy is oblong in outline with dense growth on the end of its branches. This ALEPPO or JERUSALEM PINE (Pinus halepensis) is a native of the Mediterranean region and is well adapted to the hot, dry summers and cool, moist winters of the Central Valley. The needles, always found in pairs, are short (2 to 4 inches long) and medium green. The plentiful cones, 2 to 4 inches long, are persistent and abundant -- an easy identification characteristic of this tree. This large (up to 60 feet) fast-growing pine is tolerant of drought, poor and alkaline soils, heat, wind, and seacoast conditions. It is frequently found in parks and large landscapes and used for erosion control and windbreaks.
I never met a nicer pine.
